Do I need a DPM when tiling?

Strictly speaking a DPM is not required when tiling a floor. However, salts can come through the bed and deposit on the grout in the form of salts. Also laitance can develop which deposits calcium in the joints discolouring the grout, with no effective DPM in place. These effects can be treated with either acidic or alkali products depending on whether treating porcelain or stone.
