Pitch adhesive is harder than bitumen. This is why pitch can be smoothed with products like ARDITEX NA up to 30mm when used with ARDEX Coarse Aggregate, whereas bitumen is limited to a maximum of 6mm. The harder the adhesive is, the more restraint it provides for the ARDITEX NA.
